- 1st offense: Verbal/Non-verbal warning with name written on a Detention slip as a cautionary
- 2nd offense: Student conference with Ms. Curtis for the purpose of discussing and solving behavioral problems and turning in the detention slip from 1st offense warning
- 3rd offense: Parent/Guardian Conference with student, principal (if necessary) and Ms. Curtis for the purpose of discussing and solving behavioral problems
Entering the classroom:
- Come to class on time and with all your materials
- Check/Turn in any homework in the designated homework turn in area and then find your seat as quickly and as quietly as possible
- Look over the planned schedule for the day then begin your bell work silently at your desk until given further direction by the teacher
- Do not begin to clean up or pack without the teacher’s permission. If you clean up or pack up before it is time to go it will disrupt the class and our learning.
- Clean up the classroom, push in your chair and pack up any used materials/supplies.
- Always remember to put your first and last name at the top of all your individual work and the date that you turned it in.
- The teacher will make it clear whether you are working by yourself or in a group. If you are told to work individually you are expected to work quietly at your desk and by yourself.
- If you need help refer to the section Getting Attention: The Teacher
- The teacher will indicate when we are working in groups.
- You are expected to keep a low volume at all times while working as a group.
- Remember to write the first and last name of all the group members at the top of the assignment.
- The group should work together; everyone should participate, stay on task, and be respectful to one another.
- In the event that you are absent when an assignment is due you will be expected to turn it in the day that you return back to school. Absent work can be found in the absent folder where the teacher has put it for you.
- If you miss multiple days you will have the same amount of days times two that you missed to turn in all of your make-up work.
- If you know that you are going to be missing multiple days you will be expected to notify the teacher in advance and try to turn in as much work before you leave.
- First offense: If student is caught cheating, whether on a test, quiz or homework they will be given the chance make up the work by completing redoing it and earn back 50%
- Second offense: If the student is caught cheating they will be written up and get 0% on the assignment or assessment. Refer to the Student Handbook for Policies
- It is expected that students will turn in assignments on time. The teacher will post deadlines on the class website at http://bhs-curtisa.weebly.com/.
- If you come to class late enter the classroom quietly. This means not disrupting others and finding your seat right away.
- If you have a pass for being tardy place it on the teachers desk.
- Refer to the Student Handbook for Policies
- If you finish an assignment early you are expected to stay at your seat and find an activity that does not disrupt others such as work on any unfinished assignments or you may choose to work on homework from other classes if you have that homework with you (you may not leave the classroom to get work).
- The teacher may even ask you to help tutor other students in the class that might need assistance. If the students begin to be a disruption their privilege to choose what to do when they finish early will be taken away.
- In class if you need help use the rule of three. First ask three other classmates, around your seat so you do not have to get up, for help. If your classmates could not help raise your hand till the teacher can get to you. Remember to write down what you need help with so that you do not forget.
- If someone needs help with directions or reading an assignment, help them if you are able. Never put down another student who asks for help.
- If you need additional help you may come before or after school. You will be expected to notify the teacher that you need extra help so that the teacher can set up and plan a time to help you. You may also choose to write down questions on a sticky note for the teacher or email questions that you may have or items that you need help with.
- Everyone is expected to stay seated, unless otherwise stated
- The teacher
- The student will raise their hand if they have a question or comment that the student needs the teacher’s attention for while the teacher is talking. But the student will not speak out of turn.
- If the student is working individual and has a question or is stuck the student will raise hand at their desk requesting help from the teacher. But first use the rule of three and ask three other classmates around your desk (without getting out of your seat) and then raise your hand.
- The class
- If the class is off task, too loud, or causing problems the teacher will wait quietly and take away allotted time to work on homework or if necessary keep the class after for the time they spend off task. If you see the teacher waiting stop what you are doing, look at me, and listen for directions (and if needed tell your fellow classmates that the teacher wants their attention)
- If a student is beginning to zone out, close their eyes or put their head on their desk the teacher will ask the student to stand up to get them moving and awake again. If there is a continued problem with sleeping in class the teacher and student may meet together and plan a better system that will help the student’s attentiveness in class.
- Students are expected to come to class prepared everyday but the teacher understands that sometimes we forget and need help. If you need to borrow materials from the teacher such as a book, pencil or other supplies take them from the designated borrow area. Remember before borrowing materials you must first put an item on the teacher’s desk in return such as a cell phone or student ID.
- If students begin to abuse the borrowed materials or not return them the teacher has the right to take away the privilege of begin able to borrow supplies.
- The supplies you borrow are from the designated borrowing area. You do not have permission to take things from the teacher’s desk. This space is reserved for the teacher therefore students should not be sitting at the teacher’s desk or going through it.
- Before leaving the classroom raise your hand to get the teachers attention and then ask the teacher to leave. The teacher will determine if it is a proper time to leave the room or not. If the teacher says yes take the hall pass but if the teacher says no ask again later at a more appropriate time.
- Do not run or play in the hallways or restrooms, do not disrupt or distract others in our class or other classes. If you disrespect your hallway privileges the teacher may take away allowing you to leave the room.
- The students have the right to use the hall passes but if you begin to abuse the hall pass the teacher has the right to not allow you to leave the room and will take away certain privileges when it comes to using the hall passes
- Only water is allowed in the room in a clear and sealed container.
- Phones are often an interruption to our learning therefore cell phone use will be prohibited. If you are seen using your phone in class it will be taken away immediately and the Student Handbook policies will be followed.
- If you need to plug your phone in you may take it out and plug it into the designated charging station but this is the only time your phone should be seen
- If the teacher has a substitute teacher for the day the students are expected to treat them as if they are your teacher. Show them respect, listen to them and help them out in any way needed. Follow the rules and procedures like you would any other day. You are still here to learn regardless if the teacher is present or not.
- Students will follow school wide policy on all drills and other emergencies.
- We will practice the school wide policy on each drill. When we practice these drill as a class you are expected to take the practice seriously and as if it were the real thing.
